As a keen supporter of independents, Stokes is one of my favourites, run by a fantastic team passionate about what they do and how they operate and present their products.
So our first opportunity to visit their newest cafe at The Lawn took no persuading! It is located opposite the West Gate to Lincoln Castle in the old hospital. Stokes now owns the whole complex and is gradually transforming it into a great destination.
If you’ve ever watched First Dates, then the staff uniform is similar, which works really well.
For lunch I had the Pastrami, beautifully served on a platter with skin on fries, perfectly salted, what a great combination of gerkin, Pastrami and mustard mayo packed inside a ciabatta. Finished off with a velvety flat white.
The cafe has been finished off to a very high standard and was comfortably busy with a good mix of couples and families.
To finish off, there is a massive whale in the roof, a must see.
